Explore a 160 cm Bed That Brings Its Own Light

At 160 x 200 cm, this is the double that most bedrooms are actually shaped for, wide enough for two without eating the walkway on either side. The headboard is walnut veneer with horizontal linear milling, a run of shallow parallel grooves that give the panel a corduroy-like rhythm and stop a large flat surface from feeling blank. Set into the top edge is an LED light strip that throws light upward onto the wall, turning the headboard into a soft backlit plane rather than a lamp you look directly at.

The light itself is a 3000K LED, a warm tone with a yellowish cast that suits a room used mainly after dark; it is switched by a remote control, which is included, and fed by a 1.5 m cable with a direct mains plug. Measure that cable against your nearest socket before deciding which wall the bed goes on. Along the bottom of the frame, a recess lets the bed sit tight to the wall by clearing the skirting, so the headboard reads as flush rather than floating a centimetre proud.

Birch Beneath the Veneer

Underneath the walnut face, the working parts are birch. The frame includes a bed base with 14 birch plywood slats, so you do not need to buy a separate base, and plywood slats are used because the glued cross-grain layers spring back night after night instead of gradually sagging. Supporting all of it are 9 solid birch wood legs with a round cross-section and a walnut veneer outer profile, so the visible edge of each leg continues the tone of the headboard whilst the strength comes from solid timber.

The wood used throughout holds FSC Mix Credit certification, made from a mix of materials from FSC-certified forests and FSC-controlled wood, which is a volume-based accounting of responsible sourcing across the supply chain. In use, this walnut veneer bed asks for very little: dust the milled grooves along their length with a dry brush or a soft cloth rather than across them, keep the veneer out of standing water, and wipe the surface dry after cleaning. Veneer is real wood, and it responds to moisture the way solid timber does.
