Discover an Oak Armchair with a Paper Rope Seat
This is an armchair with armrests made from natural materials using artisanal processes, which in practice means a small number of hands rather than a production line. The frame is solid oak wood, chosen for its density and its straight, open grain; each piece carries unique tones and grain patterns, so the arms of one chair will read differently from the next. The seat is handwoven paper rope, wound and stretched across the frame until the surface is taut. Sitting on it feels closer to a woven textile than to a cushion.
Paper rope is worth understanding, because it sounds fragile and is not. Long paper fibres are twisted under tension into a cord that is strong along its length, then woven in a dense pattern that spreads your weight across hundreds of crossings. The result is a seat that breathes, warms quickly and gives a little without sagging. Combined with the solid oak frame, it produces a chair light enough to move with one hand and solid enough to be the one everybody chooses.
